Reddit's 2017 NBA Redraft

It may not have been very long since the 2017 NBA draft class was first selected but things have already changed so much. Earlier this week, I posted polls around Reddit asking for enthusiasts to fill out their own 2017 Redraft board at this point in time. I sought the input of about a dozen subreddits & received almost 2500 responses. Here are the average redraft positions of the top 2017 NBA prospects:

- Tier 1 -

1. Donovan Mitchell (ADP: 2.22)
Team/Pos/Age: UTA/SG/21
Stats: 20.3p/3.6r/3.6a/1.5s/0.4b/74g
Adv. Stats: 16.4per/.541ts%/29usg%/4.6ws/0.9bpm

-The only player from the 2017 draft still in the ROY conversation is Reddit's top consensus pick. Though, I do think it's interesting that Mitchell could only get 56% of the top vote despite his stellar year. It just goes to show how competitive this rookie crop has been.

2. Jayson Tatum (ADP: 2.72)
Team/Pos/Age: BOS/SF/19
Stats: 13.9p/5.1r/1.6a/0.9s/0.8b/76g
Adv. Stats: 15.1per/.588ts%/19.3usg%/6.8ws/0.9bpm

-Tatum sits firmly in the second spot on Reddit's big board due to his impressive year on one of the league's better teams. Tatum is doing all the right things at a very young age & its hard to argue taking him outside the top two at this point. Many think he is already destined to be an all-star.

- Tier 2 -

3. Lonzo Ball (ADP: 4.85)
Team/Pos/Age: LAL/PG/20
Stats: 10.2p/6.9r/7.2a/1.7s/0.8b/52g
Adv. Stats: 12.5per/.444ts%/17.4usg%/2.0ws/1.6bpm

-The voting really starts to split early on as Ball is third on Reddit's big board despite having an ADP much closer to fifth. The consensus ordering of this class is still far from agreed upon but Ball seems to still have his place near the top secured & his positive stats across the board make it deserved.

4. Lauri Markkanen (ADP: 5.95)
Team/Pos/Age: CHI/PF/20
Stats: 15.0p/7.5r/1.1a/0.5s/0.6b/64g
Adv. Stats: 15.0per/.547ts%/21.6usg%/2.9ws/-2.1bpm

-Markkanen comes in fourth by the skin of his teeth but he clocks in this high for good reason. Lauri has had a great scoring season & got a lot of positive for a big franchise in need of some love. It will be interesting to see how his game grows but Markkanen has already surpassed many expectations.

5. Markelle Fultz (ADP: 6.06)
Team/Pos/Age: PHI/PG/19
Stats: 6.4p/2.5r/3.3a/0.8s/0.3b/8g
Adv. Stats: 10.5per/.392ts%/22.5usg%/0.1ws/-4.8bpm

-There are still a lot of Fultz truthers out there as he still was able to garner a significant portion of the #1 votes. However, Fultz couldn't crack the top 4 because he was left off quite a few ballots. Markelle is the most polarizing subject in this exercise for good reason and, in the end, that lands him here.

- Tier 3 -

6. Kyle Kuzma (ADP: 7.83)
Team/Pos/Age: LAL/PF/22
Stats: 16.0p/6.3r/1.9a/0.6s/0.4b/74g
Adv. Stats: 14.3per/.550ts%/22.2usg%/3.9ws/-1.1bpm

-Kuzma jumps all the way from the 27th pick to sixth on Reddit's big board. His year has been good & he has done it for a marquee organization. I personally have my reservations due to his relatively advanced age but I can't argue with his ADP. Kyle also has the most WS out of anyone on this list.

7. Josh Jackson (ADP: 8.11)
Team/Pos/Age: PHO/SF/20
Stats: 12.8p/4.5r/1.5a/1.0s/0.4b/75g
Adv. Stats: 11.7per/.481ts%/25.5usg%/-0.7ws/-4.4bpm

-The advanced stats haven't loved Jackson so far this year but the young man has shown enough to stay near the top of Reddit's draft boards. He slipped a bit from his draft day position but not as much as I would have expected. Josh has turned it on as of late & looks to be a solid defender.

8. Dennis Smith Jr. (ADP: 8.26)
Team/Pos/Age: DAL/PG/20
Stats: 15.2p/3.7r/5.0a/1.0s/0.2b/66g
Adv. Stats: 12.5per/.474ts%/29.1usg%/-0.9ws/-2.5bpm

-Another player struggling with his advanced stats right now, DSJ entered the season as a ROY candidate but has fallen back down to eighth on the consensus draft board. There is still a lot of potential here but DSJ didn't do quite enough this season to separate himself from the pack.

9. De'Aaron Fox (ADP: 9.07)
Team/Pos/Age: SAC/PG/20
Stats: 11.4p/2.6r/4.3a/1.0s/0.3b/69g
Adv. Stats: 11.2per/.478ts%/23.3usg%/-0.7ws/-4.6bpm

-Sacramento's new point guard has shown flashes (like others in this range have) but nothing consistent enough yet to catch much attention from Reddit. Despite earning the starting position, De'Aaron slides down a few spots from his draft day position & comes in at ninth.

- Tier 4 -

10. Jonathan Isaac (ADP: 11.09)
Team/Pos/Age: ORL/PF/20
Stats: 5.4p/3.7r/0.7a/1.2s/1.1b/27g
Adv. Stats: 9.8per/.465ts%/15.0usg%/0.2ws/-1.9bpm

-It has largely been a lost season for Isaac, which is probably why he has fallen on Reddit's consensus draft board. However, he remains in the top 10 despite so few games due to his defensive prowess & crazy upside. Jonathan is also still very young as well.

11. John Collins (ADP: 11.11)
Team/Pos/Age: ATL/PF/20
Stats: 10.3p/7.2r/1.2a/0.6s/1.1b/69g
Adv. Stats: 18.6per/.628ts%/17.8usg%/5.1ws/1.6bpm

-At this point in the redraft, it is as split as can be. However, John Collins sticks out due to his favorable advanced stats across the board & his highlight capabilities. The Baptist was an internet sensation for good reason.

12. Bam Adebayo (ADP: 11.29)
Team/Pos/Age: MIA/C/20
Stats: 7.0p/5.5r/1.5a/0.4s/0.6b/65g
Adv. Stats: 15.7per/.569ts%/15.8usg%/4.0ws/0.2bpm

-One of the advanced stat darlings of this rookie class is also playing meaningful minutes for a playoff team. It is hard to know what will become of Adebayo's career but it is clear that he has done everything he can to prove himself as a genuine NBA player.

13. OG Anunoby (ADP: 11.40)
Team/Pos/Age: TOR/SF/20
Stats: 5.8p/2.3r/0.8a/0.7s/0.2b/68g
Adv. Stats: 9.6per/.575ts%/12.3usg%/2.5ws/0.3bpm

-The Jedi, OG Anunoby has been playing meaningful minutes for one of the best teams in the NBA. While his counting stats may not be impressive, his advanced stats suggest that OG is contributing to that Raptor success, though it is  clearly as a role player for now.

14. Frank Ntilikina (ADP: 11.42)
Team/Pos/Age: NYK/PG/19
Stats: 5.6p/2.2r/3.1a/0.8s/0.2b/74g
Adv. Stats: 6.5per/.429ts%/17.0usg%/-1.2ws/-4.4bpm

-Ntilikina has had a season of ups and downs. Selected by Phil Jackson, Frank had a lot of doubters but has proved himself to be strong defensively. Knick fans will hope that he can develop an offensive game has he ages but he will have to get steady minutes first.

15. Zach Collins (ADP: 11.62)
Team/Pos/Age: POR/C/20
Stats: 4.6p/3.4r/0.8a/0.3s/0.5b/62g
Adv. Stats: 8.2per/.487ts%/15.5usg%/0.8ws/-2.9bpm

-I am somewhat surprised to see Collins this high (I personally like Bell & Allen better) but I can't deny that he has already provided things for Portland that they've sorely need for years, namely interior defense. It is hard to tell how high Zach's ceiling is but it is clear that he has earned his spot in an NBA rotation.
