2018 Power Rankings (Week 7)

Who flew highest this week?
Hello everyone! Welcome to the seventh week of our 2018 Power Rankings. Feel free to skip to the rankings but in case you don't know by now, here's how the scoring works...

Each team was ranked in six categories for the week:
-Total fantasy points scored.
-Fantasy points averaged per game by starters.
-Total amount of points produced by the bench.
-Games missed due to inactivity (doubled for starters).
-Fantasy points per game gained or lost through transactions (using last 30 averages)
-The standings.

Then, each team was given points depending on where they were in the rankings. The better a team performed in the rankings, the less points I gave them.

I doubled the scores in the weekly total and per game average as a final touch because this game is ultimately about scoring fantasy points.

From there, I totaled each team's score across the six categories and used those final scores to sort my power rankings. 52 points would be average with the lower scores being above average.

I also added everyone's running season average (and ranking) beneath their week's score. Just another way to consider how things are shaking out.

Here are my results:

12. MAMA said Knock u out - Rich (1-6)
Week Total: 681 points (12th)
Per Game: 24.3 ppg (9th)
Bench Scoring: 128 points (11th)
Missed Games: 20 games (1st)
Transactions: -6.8 ppg (12th)
Standings: (11th)
Week 7 Total: 77
Season Average: 72 (12th)

Slipping a spot to the bottom after losing to big to Chris, Rich's season is looking pretty cooked. While the per game pace looks better and the missed games are a good excuse, this squad has systemically been a bottom ranking producer all season. The choice of Faried over Barea was controversial but ultimately doesn't change much. Time to seize the tank!

11. TimAin't Duncan - Nick (0-7)
Week Total: 689 points (11th)
Per Game: 23 ppg (10th)
Bench Scoring: 152 points (9th)
Missed Games: 14 games (6th)
Transactions: 0 ppg (2nd)
Standings: (12th)
Week 7 Total: 71
Season Average: 68.7 (11th)

Up a spot despite losing to me, Nick's team remains winless and rudderless for another week. The production has been disappointing since week two and there is no sign of change. Maybe Nick will beat Rich in their rematch later this season but, besides that, this squad will be an underdog every week. One way or anything, this squad could use a revamp.

10. All-NBA 5th Team - Matt (3-4)
Week Total: 712 points (10th)
Per Game: 22.3 ppg (12th)
Bench Scoring: 244 points (4th)
Missed Games: 16 games (3rd)
Transactions: 0 ppg (2nd)
Standings: (8th)
Week 7 Total: 61
Season Average: 51.9 (8th)

Fall four spots after a gruesome loss to Brett, Matt's team is in big trouble and the numbers show it. Injuries struck in a big way and Matt will need to fix his starting lineup quickly if he wants to remain in the playoff picture. This is a team designed for the season at hand so this is all very bad news. Fortunately, Matt's bench looked strong this week which could help with weathering this injury storm.

9. Emperor Kuzma - Tyler (4-3)
Week Total: 737 points (9th)
Per Game: 23 ppg (10th)
Bench Scoring: 137 points (10th)
Missed Games: 10 games (7th)
Transactions: +6.1 ppg (1st)
Standings: (4th)
Week 7 Total: 60
Season Average: 39.1 (4th)

Dropping four more spots with a loss to Alex, Tyler had a rough one once again as the injuries roll on. The waiver move was nice but this team is currently dependent on a few key guys, some of whom are sorely missed right now. I remain confident that this injuries will clear up here and, when that happens, this team will remain near the top. Unfortunately, things may get ugly in the meantime.

8. Draymond Green Tornado Kick - Nathaniel (3-4)
Week Total: 894 points (4th)
Per Game: 27.1 ppg (6th)
Bench Scoring: 194 points (6th)
Missed Games: 10 games (7th)
Transactions: -3.2 ppg (11th)
Standings: (8th)
Week 7 Total: 52
Season Average: 55.7 (9th)

It was a comeback week for Nate as he rises two spots after the upset win over Freddy. The counting numbers all looked healthy and that is despite some key injuries. Nathaniel continues to hover right on the playoff bubble but with the injury bug striking a lot of the league, this squad might be able to hang on to that last playoff spot.

7. Team Penetration - Michael (4-3)
Week Total: 782 points (7th)
Per Game: 26.1 ppg (8th)
Bench Scoring: 170 points (8th)
Missed Games: 15 games (4th)
Transactions: 0 ppg (2nd)
Standings: (4th)
Week 7 Total: 48
Season Average: 32.6 (2nd)

Falling six spots out of first after losing to Danny, it was another rough week for Michael. The starting lineup has been struck by injuries and the team as a whole is strained. It is worth noting that if any other team was dealing with this level of injuries, that team would probably be in the bottom of the ranks. For an elite team like this one, it merely knocks them to the middle.

6. Love Kaman My Bibby's - Danny (5-2)
Week Total: 854 points (5th)
Per Game: 26.7 ppg (7th)
Bench Scoring: 212 points (5th)
Missed Games: 8 games (10th)
Transactions: 0 ppg (2nd)
Standings: (2nd)
Week 7 Total: 43
Season Average: 47 (6th)

Sliding three spots despite a big win over Michael, Danny's team has been in the upper half of the ranks for the greater part of a month and it is safe to say this is a playoff team. What I'm curious about now is if this team can really win a playoff series against the tops of the league. I know this team is good but I'm still not sure if Danny is a contender or a pretender. The numbers are good but I'm still bullish.

5. Foxy Ladies - Brett (3-4)
Week Total: 763 points (8th)
Per Game: 27.3 ppg (5th)
Bench Scoring: 291 points (2nd)
Missed Games: 15 games (4th)
Transactions: 0 ppg (2nd)
Standings: (8th)
Week 7 Total: 42
Season Average: 59.9 (10th)

Jumping a surprising four spots with a narrow win over Matt, Brett's team ranks so highly this week because of the strong per game pace of the starters, the big performance from the bench and the high amount of missed games. With Matt and Nate both looking vulnerable, Brett might be still be in the running for that eighth playoff spot. As an owner who has shown tanking intentions, it will be interesting to see how Brett navigates this situation.

4. Deng Girl - Freddy (4-3)
Week Total: 824 points (6th)
Per Game: 28.4 ppg (2nd)
Bench Scoring: 343 points (1st)
Missed Games: 6 games (11th)
Transactions: 0 ppg (2nd)
Standings: (4th)
Week 7 Total: 34
Season Average: 38.7 (3rd)

In the fourth spot once again despite a surprise loss to Nathaniel, Forever Fourth Freddy has yet to hit the very top of the ranks so far this season but has had consistently strong performances all year long. Even in this loss, Freddy had a great pace and a league-leading bench. Due to this consistency, this team has risen to third in the season-long rankings, which might be the more informative ranking anyway.

3. Admiral Kryptonite - Me (4-3)
Week Total: 968 points (2nd)
Per Game: 27.7 ppg (4th)
Bench Scoring: 281 points (3rd)
Missed Games: 2 games (12th)
Transactions: 0 ppg (2nd)
Standings: (4th)
Week 7 Total: 33
Season Average: 42.1 (5th)

It was a bounce back week as my team jumped five spots with a win over Nick. The production was good across the board though my team was a vision of health, a rare sight right now. I'd like to think that my depth gives my team consistency but I wonder if my investment in youth undermines that. Whatever the case, my team needs more weeks like this to establish that they are more than a first-round exit.

2. RIM JOBS - Alex (6-1)
Week Total: 916 points (3rd)
Per Game: 27.8 ppg (3rd)
Bench Scoring: 172 points (7th)
Missed Games: 9 games (9th)
Transactions: 0 ppg (2nd)
Standings: (1st)
Week 7 Total: 31
Season Average: 48.1 (7th)

It's finally time for some love as Alex jumps fives spots into second after a win over Tyler. While fortune has definitely been on this team's side for a majority of the season, there is no denying that this was a good week, especially next to the weeks that other owners had. The bench is still a concern but the starting lineup can punch with the best of them. It is not luck alone that has this team first in the standings.

1. Team Greek God - Chriss (5-2)
Week Total: 1090 points (1st)
Per Game: 35.2 ppg (1st)
Bench Scoring: 112 points (12th)
Missed Games: 19 games (2nd)
Transactions: -3 ppg (10th)
Standings: (2nd)
Week 7 Total: 30
Season Average: 30.7 (1st)

From second to first, Chriss' team looked big with a blowout over Rich. The starting lineup was on fire and they were truly in a league of their own this week. The bench was dead last, though the high amount of missed games could be part of that. While I do think there are issues to be addressed here, the core of this team looked powerful enough to silence those doubts this week.

2018 Power Rankings (Week 6)

As the season settles, who is leaping ahead?
Hello everyone! Welcome to the sixth week of our 2018 Power Rankings.

12. TimAin't Duncan - Nick (0-6)
Week Total: 793 points (10th)
Per Game: 24 ppg (11th)
Bench Scoring: 190 points (9th)
Missed Games: 10 games (5th)
Transactions: 0 ppg (5th)
Standings: (12th)
Week 6 Total: 73
Season Average: 68.3 (11th)

In last for the second week in a row after losing to Chris, Nick's team has injury issues and a lack of premiere scoring. I think Nick can eventually win a matchup, maybe even a few, but I doubt he will be making the playoffs. Even if everything breaks right for this team, I don't see probability being in Nick's favor. With playoffs most likely out of reach, the focus here should be on executing a productive tank.

11. MAMA said Knock u out - Rich (1-5)
Week Total: 588 points (12th)
Per Game: 23.5 ppg (12th)
Bench Scoring: 232 points (4th)
Missed Games: 19 games (2nd)
Transactions: 0 ppg (5th)
Standings: (11th)
Week 6 Total: 70
Season Average: 71.2 (12th)

Holding down the eleventh spot once again with a loss to Danny, Rich's team is in a similar predicament as Nick's. While the standings suggest that the playoffs are only two games away, the total point productions suggest that Rich is about 117 points per week behind the eighth best team. At this point in the season, I see these disadvantages to be insurmountable and the tank to be the more fruitful endeavor.

10. Draymond Green Tornado Kick - Nathaniel (2-4)
Week Total: 820 points (8th)
Per Game: 24.1 ppg (10th)
Bench Scoring: 231 points (5th)
Missed Games: 8 games (7th)
Transactions: +7.5 ppg (4th)
Standings: (9th)
Week 6 Total: 61
Season Average: 56.3 (9th)

In tenth for the second week in a row after losing to Michael, Nate's team is beginning to look questionable. All season, the numbers have been warm across the board but in these last couple week, they have cooled. The bench is surprisingly solid despite the youth but the starting lineup has been lacking. A shift may need to happen for this team to remain in the playoff picture.

9. Foxy Ladies - Brett (2-4)
Week Total: 735 points (11th)
Per Game: 27.2 ppg (6th)
Bench Scoring: 200 points (8th)
Missed Games: 12 games (4th)
Transactions: 0 ppg (5th)
Standings: (9th)
Week 6 Total: 60
Season Average: 62.8 (10th)

Slipping a spot this week with a lose to Alex, Brett's team vexes these rankings. While his weekly total was poor, his per game average was solid. Last week it was the inverse. Meanwhile, the bench is mild to poor. Overall, what I see here is a top heavy team that is reliant on the core six or so players who are all at different points in their careers. It feels like there are moves to be made here.

8. Admiral Kryptonite - Me (3-3)
Week Total: 824 points (6th)
Per Game: 24.2 ppg (9th)
Bench Scoring: 343 points (1st)
Missed Games: 2 games (12th)
Transactions: 0 ppg (5th)
Standings: (7th)
Week 6 Total: 55
Season Average: 43.7 (5th)

Dropping three spots after losing to Matt, my team put out a flat one this week and it was tough to sit through. My total was decent and my bench continues to excel but my per game average was poor. For a team that wants to contend, these numbers aren't going to cut it. Hopefully it is just a down week but it does indicate a certain lack of pop to the roster.

7. RIM JOBS - Alex (5-1)
Week Total: 811 points (9th)
Per Game: 24.6 ppg (8th)
Bench Scoring: 213 points (7th)
Missed Games: 6 games (8th)
Transactions: +11.6 ppg (2nd)
Standings: (1st)
Week 6 Total: 52
Season Average: 51 (8th)

Rising two spots with a win over Brett, Alex's team remains first in the standings while continuing to produce average numbers. The addition of Kyle Anderson is a nice one and I certainly think this squad will be in the playoffs this year. But the numbers keep suggesting that this group will more likely be a first-round exit than a finals contender.

6. All-NBA 5th Team - Matt (3-3)
Week Total: 882 points (4th)
Per Game: 25.2 ppg (7th)
Bench Scoring: 237 points (3rd)
Missed Games: 6 games (8th)
Transactions: 0 ppg (5th)
Standings: (7th)
Week 6 Total: 45
Season Average: 50.3 (7th)

In the same spot as last week after a win over me, Matt's team has become a vision of consistency. After a rough start, this team has produced on an above-average level for over a month. At this point, I believe it is safe to say that this team is a playoff lock. Though, I will admit that I am writing this after Griffin's injury, which may seriously jeopardize my previous claim.

5. Emperor Kuzma - Tyler (4-2)
Week Total: 822 points (7th)
Per Game: 28.3 ppg (4th)
Bench Scoring: 145 points (10th)
Missed Games: 16 games (3rd)
Transactions: 0 ppg (5th)
Standings: (2nd)
Week 6 Total: 42
Season Average: 35.7 (3rd)

Falling four spots out of first with a loss to Freddy, Tyler's team has run into some tough times. The missed games are high and the totals are low. On the bright side, the per game average continues to thrive, which indicates to me that this may just be a storm to weather, rather than an indication of serious structural issues.

4. Deng Girl - Freddy (4-2)
Week Total: 910 points (3rd)
Per Game: 28.4 ppg (3rd)
Bench Scoring: 225 points (6th)
Missed Games: 3 games (10th)
Transactions: 0 ppg (5th)
Standings: (2nd)
Week 6 Total: 35
Season Average: 39.5 (4th)

Holding down the same spot despite a strong win over Tyler, Freddy's team delivered on all the hype that his splashy trades promised. The starting lineup looked as good as anybody's and the bench was solid as well. Freddy's team looked like a genuine contender this week.

3. Love Kaman My Bibby's - Danny (4-2)
Week Total: 926 points (2nd)
Per Game: 28.1 ppg (5th)
Bench Scoring: 288 points (2nd)
Missed Games: 3 games (10th)
Transactions: 0 ppg (5th)
Standings: (2nd)
Week 6 Total: 33
Season Average: 47.7 (6th)

In the third spot once again after a blowout victory over Rich, Danny's team has really turned up the heat recently and is looking like the surprise team you don't want to face right now. While I do think some of it is unsustainable, with Pau and LaMarcus thriving in Kawhi's absence for example, I do think this momentum can be parlayed into serious contention.

2. Team Greek God - Chris (4-2)
Week Total: 873 points (5th)
Per Game: 30.1 ppg (1st)
Bench Scoring: 58 points (12th)
Missed Games: 21 games (1st)
Transactions: +8.2 ppg (3rd)
Standings: (2nd)
Week 6 Total: 30
Season Average: 30.8 (2nd)

In the same spot as last week with a win over Nick, Chris' team looked rather human at first glance. The totals were lacking, especially the league-low bench, but the per game average and amount of missed games suggest that this team is still strong despite going through a lot of injuries. It could be nothing, a sign of trouble or and indication of a lack of depth. Time will tell.

1. Team Penetration - Michael (4-2)
Week Total: 953 points (1st)
Per Game: 28.9 ppg (2nd)
Bench Scoring: 135 points (11th)
Missed Games: 9 games (6th)
Transactions: +13.4 ppg (1st)
Standings: (2nd)
Week 6 Total: 26
Season Average: 30 (1st)

Jumping six spots to the top after a win over Nathaniel, Michael's team looked superb once again as he lead the league in weekly totals. The per game average was strong as well and, while the bench was poor, the addition of Lamb should most certainly help. Everyone is looking a bit more vulnerable than usual lately but Michael's team continues to look like the leader of the pack.

2018 Power Rankings (Week 5)

Who elevated their game this week?
Hello everyone! Welcome to the fifth week of our 2018 Power Rankings.

12. TimAin't Duncan - Nick (0-5)
Week Total: 762 points (12th)
Per Game: 23.8 ppg (11th)
Bench Scoring: 194 points (9th)
Missed Games: 3 games (10th)
Transactions: +7.1 ppg (2nd)
Standings: (12th)
Week 5 Total: 79
Season Average: 67.4 (11th)

Dropping a spot to the bottom after a narrow loss to Rich, Nick's team becomes the final one without a win and he is hurting for some fortune. The numbers were rough across the board and, besides the return of Batum, there are no signs that things are going to get much better. Maybe the investment in Nance Jr pays off but even then, it's looking like the playoffs are a far cry.

11. MAMA said Knock u out - Rich (1-4)
Week Total: 780 points (11th)
Per Game: 23.6 ppg (12th)
Bench Scoring: 256 points (3rd)
Missed Games: 7 games (6th)
Transactions: 0 ppg (5th)
Standings: (11th)
Week 5 Total: 71
Season Average: 71.4 (12th)

Slipping a spot this week despite landing their first win of the year, Rich's starting lineup has yet to produce playoff-level stats this season. The return of Chris Paul definitely was a noticeable boon to the bench and his eventual return to the starting lineup may tip the scales into Rich's favor. But even then, this team is behind the eight ball due to the 1-4 start. It all seems unlikely at best.

10. Draymond Green Tornado Kick (2-3)
Week Total: 811 points (8th)
Per Game: 25.3 ppg (8th)
Bench Scoring: 195 points (8th)
Missed Games: 3 games (10th)
Transactions: 0 ppg (5th)
Standings: (8th)
Week 5 Total: 63
Season Average: 55.4 (9th)

Droppings two spots after a painful loss to Danny, Nate's team has been teetering on that playoff bubble for the last couple of weeks and they finally turned out a week that sounded the alarms. While the scoring categories haven't ever been outright bad, I have yet to see a breakout week from this team that would suggest they can punch with the tops of the league, even if its just on their best days. Maybe the youth needs more patience but a playoff berth is at risk here.

9. RIM JOBS - Alex (4-1)
Week Total: 781 points (10th)
Per Game: 25.2 ppg (9th)
Bench Scoring: 153 points (11th)
Missed Games: 11 games (3rd)
Transactions: 0 ppg (5th)
Standings: (1st)
Week 5 Total: 58
Season Average: 50.8 (7th)

Falling six spots after their first loss, Alex's squad was clearly hit by injuries this week. However, while the high amount of missed games provides an excuse, I do believe a lack of depth is being exposed here. The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle and, as is often the case, I believe the season average is a more reliable indication of where this team stands in the league.

8. Foxy Ladies - Brett (2-3)
Week Total: 865 points (5th)
Per Game: 24 ppg (10th)
Bench Scoring: 245 points (4th)
Missed Games: 3 games (10th)
Transactions: +4 ppg (3rd)
Standings: (8th)
Week 5 Total: 55
Season Average: 63.4 (10th)

Jumping four spots after a surprise win over Freddy, Brett's team stole a big victory just one week after being declared dead. But before we celebrate too hard, I would like to point out the per game average being relatively low, indicating that Brett's team happened to have the most games this week. So while this team clearly still has juice, I wouldn't expect them to beat a team like Freddy's again.

7. Team Penetration - Michael (3-2)
Week Total: 839 points (6th)
Per Game: 26.2 ppg (7th)
Bench Scoring: 121 points (12th)
Missed Games: 13 games (2nd)
Transactions: 0 ppg (5th)
Standings: (3rd)
Week 5 Total: 48
Season Average: 30.8 (1st)

Falling six spots from first after a big loss to Tyler, Michael's team had their worst week in over a year. The high amount of missed games suggested there would be a dip in the scoring categories but the disparities were larger than expected. The injuries were tough but, like with Alex, they expose a certain lack of depth. While this week is likely an aberration, it is still an indication of a level of vulnerability that hasn't been seen in a long time.

6. All-NBA 5th Team - Matt (2-3)
Week Total: 820 points (7th)
Per Game: 26.5 ppg (4th)
Bench Scoring: 236 points (5th)
Missed Games: 6 games (7th)
Transactions: +3.6 ppg (4th)
Standings: (8th)
Week 5 Total: 46
Season Average: 51.4 (8th)

In the same spot as last week despite a loss to Chris, Matt's team is looking more and more solid each week. While I have been questioning this team's ceiling since the beginning of the season, it is their floor that is worth mentioning. The bench and starting lineup continue to produce playoff-level stats and this has all been with Thomas on the IR. This team is looking playoff bound.

5. Admiral Kryptonite - Me (3-2)
Week Total: 894 points (4th)
Per Game: 26.3 ppg (6th)
Bench Scoring: 360 points (1st)
Missed Games: 5 games (9th)
Transactions: -22.5 ppg (12th)
Standings: (3rd)
Week 5 Total: 45
Season Average: 41.4 (5th)

Dropping three spots despite a nice win over Alex, my starting lineup looked good and my bench looked great. My trade was controversial especially from an immediate production standpoint but we'll see how it effects the team going forward. I may have said this before but the obvious limiting factor here is the per game average and that can only be further boosted by outlier producers.

4. Deng Girl - Freddy (3-2)
Week Total: 796 points (9th)
Per Game: 26.5 ppg (4th)
Bench Scoring: 207 points (6th)
Missed Games: 11 games (3rd)
Transactions: +44.9 ppg (1st)
Standings: (3rd)
Week 5 Total: 39
Season Average: 40.4 (4th)

Up one spot despite a surprise loss to Brett, it is rare that a team outranks their weekly total by so much but Freddy's team is a worthy exception this week. The per game average was actually good, the bench was solid, and the trades were big time. With the addition of three players averaging 30+ fantasy points per game this season, it is reasonable to expect this team to make a considerable jump, possibly into the front of this race.

3. Love Kaman My Bibby's - Danny (3-2)
Week Total: 925 points (3rd)
Per Game: 28 ppg (3rd)
Bench Scoring: 261 points (2nd)
Missed Games: 6 games (7th)
Transactions: -9.9 ppg (10th)
Standings: (3rd)
Week 5 Total: 34
Season Average: 50.6 (6th)

What a remarkable week for Danny. Jumping four spots this week with a major win over Nate, Danny's starting lineup look about as good as anyone's and the bench was strong to boot. The trade he chose to make with Freddy, while sensible, comes at a time when others might have their eyes on the championship trophy. This was definitely a hot week for Danny but hot enough to make me think his team is actually good. We'll see how the trade shakes it all out going forward.

2. Team Greek God - Chris (3-2)
Week Total: 944 points (2nd)
Per Game: 31.5 ppg (1st)

Up two spots this week after a strong win over Matt, Chris' team look elite once again as they lead the league in points per game. The bench still leaves a lot to be desired but the amount of missed games may account for some of that. The waiver move was controversial to say the least but it may work out in the long run. Despite that, as usual, this team looks like a juggernaut.

Back with a vengeance, jumping eight spots to the top after a colossal win over Michael, Tyler's team put it all together this week. It will be interesting to see if this was a hot week or something to be expected going forward but either way, it is all being done with Kawhi Leonard on the IR. While this may be the murkiest the top of the league has ever been, it is clear that this week belonged to Tyler.
